Birthdays In Ekehuan Campus.

The person being bathed in  pictures above  is the  MACSA(mass communication Student Association) president for the 2011/2012 session of the University of Benin. This is to tell you that nomenclature is not respected when it comes to birthday celebration in the Mother campus. You are severely beaten with water, that you begin to think probably something else is hitting you,You are made to do all sort of exercises ranging from lying down, push ups, frog jumps....the list continues, depending on the magnanimity of the friends involved. It is believed that since you shouted when you where born...you should shout again.
The severity of the beatings depends on your popularity or how far you have dealt with people on their Birthdays. This event is sweet to some while to some others it is pitiable on compassionate grounds. The happenings is usually characterized by words of compassion from passerby but  it is a tradition that has found its ways into the hearts of many. Birthday ought to be a time of celebration but ''see where men dey hide birthday dates to run away from things like this''. Funny enough i witnessed a guy that was to mark his birthday, and guys where not ready to beat him, hence he started shouting"make una come pou me water oh..today na my BIRTHDAY"...block B Boys will know him.
Anyway,it is my own candid opinion that things should be done moderately, for those that want it done,so that someone doesnt fall sick or get injured. And those that dont want it and have never participated in it ,should be left alone,so this tradition doesn't turn to fight one day.As we "jive" into 2012,where more birthdays arrive..lets enjoy the season and wisely count our days, irrespective of how you want to do it..do it the right way
